At the railway line open day back in April we promised to put in a few parking spaces at the Post Office end of the railway line, so that those of you who can’t walk far, have small children or just don’t want to cross the A134 with the family can nip up there and still enjoy a lovely country walk. Well it’s been a while but we are getting there. SCC highways dept has conducted a professional traffic survey to confirm that the entrance is safe, we have affordable quotes for the work and we have made an application for planning permission. If permission is granted we will also go ahead with the community orchard; an area of fruit trees and picnic benches next to the parking spaces where you can write poetry, play with the kids or just walk. The fruit will belong to everyone in the village. So keep your fingers crossed and we will keep you posted.

How many is a few? (as in parking spaces)…it would make more sense to install a pedestrian crossing on the A134 near the post office and then place some wooden benches in the area that you plan to put the car spaces to write poetry! Anyway walking is healthy – better for the enviroment. Have you thought about the possible dubious activities late at night that could be encouraged by the car park’s location?
We do not need car park that will destroy part of this lovely amenity. There are car parking spaces at Low Green for direct access on to the Line at that end. For those who wish to join the footpath network at Hawkers Lane there is a large car park at the Rushbrooke Arms where a quiet drink and or a nice meal may be had after enjoying a circular walk. In addition there is a car park that has been used for many years within 100 yards of the proposed new car park. A further car park, as proposed, will detract from the tranquillity of the Line, promote a highway hazard on a dangerous bend and destroy wildlife habitat.
