The decision regarding the planning application for Erskine Lodge that was due to be made on Thursday 3 March by the St Edmundsbury Borough Council Development Control Committee has been deferred .
The deferral was made to allow completion of the outstanding NHS Trust consultation, and so that committee members have adequate time to review recent submissions made by Great and Little Whelnetham Parish Council and local residents. The application will be re-submitted for determination on a date (yet to be confirmed) after the 11th March.
The deferral means that there is a potential further window of time in which to lodge objections to these proposals. Parish Council meetings to consider this planning application over recent months have been well attended by the public with many residents expressing concern about the scale, design and traffic impact of the proposals. However, to date, only five local households have lodged written objections with the planning authority. The applicant has also highlighted as part of this application that 95% of households contacted chose not to make any formal response to the underlying development brief consultation.
If you have concerns about the proposals, please put these in writing to the local planning authority before 11th March 2015. The Parish Council objection to the proposals will be strengthened if St Eds and its Councillors are left in no doubt about the strength of local opposition to this development.
Please take the time to put your views in writing to the case officer, Gareth Durrant (quoting application reference DC/15/2277/HYB) either by letter or by email (contact details below) before 11th March 2016.

Not against new homes going on there but I am against the amount that is giong to be squashed into the site .
Flats are not appropriate for a village setting even if it is only 2 story ones, Older people looking to down size and live on one level will not want to live upstairs in a flat or live downstairs under someone else who may not be thoughtful about the noise they make.
No one has 1 and a half cars, so parking allocation is a complete joke.
These house will be the first thing you see when entering the village so their design needs to reflect the homes which are already present. My 10yr old daughter looked at the designs and her first comment to me was “why are they building shops down there ?? Is it so we don’t have to go into Bury?”.
We were told in the beginning that the homes built would be given first refusal to people already in the village either wanting to down size or thoes wanting to move out of their parents home will this still be honoured ???. I’m all for regeneration and moving with the times as long as it is done with thought and not greed.
Well said Sarah totally agree with You
Many thanks for your comments. I hope you have also made comments on the St Eds planning Web page. They are still taking comments until Friday. Your views are important part of the planning process
I do believe that there could be places built on the site but on a smaller scale I do not like the thought of flats being put up they would look hideous and spoil the look of our lovely village , also the main thought of building these places was to help our local people remain in the village , would they get first priority over these places I do hope so , please do not put flats up as I can see no purpose for these as they are not intended for family’s , one , two , three bedroom houses or bungalows are more appropriate and would look nicer on that piece of land after all this is still and always will be a village not a built up town , you also have to take into account the traffic coming out of this area on to the main road will there be some kind of mini roundabout !!!! I also understand that there are more planes on building private housing further back on this site is this option also in place yet and how many are you considering for theses ?
Hi Sharon, many thanks for your comments. I hope you have sent this in to St Edmundsbury planning dept too, the window for more comments is open until Friday.
Note that even if you have made objections to various earlier versions of this application, those have been discarded and you need to do it all again. Don’t let the big boys get away with abusing local residents in this way.
******EVEN IF YOU OBJECTED BEFORE, YOU NEED TO DO IT AGAIN******
