Residents raised concerns, when they noticed that a tree had been cut down by St Edmundsbury’s Grounds Maintenance Team and wanted to know why.

This matter was raised with the Teams Manager who explained

‘The area was recently surveyed under the current ward cyclical inspection. The tree was suffering from verticillium wilt and a decision was made to remove the tree. This will stop the spread of infection to the surrounding trees and also allow the remaining trees to grow into the space made. The tree was felled to knee height as per our specification as the stump will be ground out in the near future, cutting the tree to ground level will make the remaining stump a trip hazard, this is why it is left intentionally high.’
